Morning Light

You have met Hazel before. It seems as though she is going to be my model for quite a few paintings ...especially watercolours. She is very obliging, especially when she has found the warmest spot in the house,in which to doze.

Between Poses.

This watercolour was from a lifedrawing. The model was having a break between poses. I thought that the relaxed pose would make a good drawing. Later, I used the drawing as the basis for this watercolour. Materials: W&N watercolour on Arches Rough 300gsm. Size:Approx. 36cm x 28cm (14" x 11")

Jugs and Flowers

The delft blue jug belonged to my mother. During WW2 she saved coupons from a company (maybe Cadbury Cocoa) When she had the required number, she was able to choose on item to a certain value. She chose this jug.I remember that she used to make cocoa in this jug, which also has a lid to keep the cocoa warm. I always loved the shape and colour of this jug, so it was an easy choice for part of this stlll life oil painting. The white gravy jug, which I have used for the daisies, belonged to my mother in law. Materials: Oil on canvas board. Size: 46cm x 33cm

Daisy Chain

It seems that when I am am having trouble getting back into painting mode...I relax and paint daisies. No doubt there is some deep and meaningful reason why I do this , but so far I haven't discovered what that reason is. In the meantime I get to enjoy the processes and feel free to relax and enjoy myself... Materials: Mixed media on Arches rough 300gsm

Sarah in the Pool

My paintings tend to vary quite a lot...probably because I cannot resist the various delights of different mediums.Right now watercolour on yupo is my favourite! I love the freedom of yupo...make a "mistake" and wipe it off! The subject for this one is my granddaughter, Sarah. The last few summers have been very hot in Australia. After a hot day at school, nothing beats a dip in the pool.

Under the Old Avenel Bridge

This is a view from under the old stone bridge at Avenel , Victoria, Australia. The bridge was built by convict labour across the Hughes Creek which was on the main highway between Melbourne and Sydney. I used to live at Avenel as a child and spent many wonderful summer days playing along this creek and swimming in the deeper holes. Watercolour on gessoed Arches rough 300gsm.

Brooding Hills

This painting is from the same place as "Hills Near Euroa" But, this time it is painted in acrylic and on canvas. I made this one deliberately more moody than the watercolour version. These hills have a brooding quality. The mood changes all the time depending on the weather, light and the seasons.

Hills at Euroa, Victoria Australia

Water colour and gouache on pre- gessoed Arches Rough ...300gsm These dramatic, brooding hills surrounding the town of Euroa in Central Victoria have always held a fascination for me. Euroa was a favourite 'haunt' of Ned Kelly, Australia's most famous bushranger.

Uluru

Another small test run from the trip through the "red centre". I will probably do a few of these before I actually work out what(and how) I want to paint any larger works. I have a few ideas running about in my head but nothing that moves me to put brush to canvas...yet!

The Red Centre

This is actually the first properly finished painting that I have made from my trip to Central Australia, in June/July earlier this year. Let's hope I have "broken the drought". I am really looking forward to getting back into some serious work and hopefully make some real progress. It is a watercolour on Yupo.

The Gorge

My first watercolour in a long while. I had great plans to record my trip to Central Australia in lots of paintings... and I did think, that by now, I would have plenty to show. However it was not to be and all I have managed to produce so far is this small watercolour....at least it is a start!
