Hanging Rock

I had almost forgotten that I had this one... It was painted about six years ago after a visit to Hanging Rock, an interesting outcrop of rocks near Mt Macedon in Victoria, Australia. There is a novel about this rather unusual area. "Picnic at Hanging Rock" was written by Joan Lindsay and was published in 1967.A film of the same name was made in 1975. The story is set in about 1900. A party of school girls, from a nearby boarding school, were picknicking there ...two of them disappeared with out a trace. The area is very unusual, definitely eerie, especially during those hot, still summer days.... Watercolour on Arches Rough 300gsm Size Approx.52cm x36cm

Hi Sandra, Wow you have been out to the ‘the rock!’ The film adaptation of this novel was scary stuff and I remember it well despite only seeing it once all those years ago.
Your rendition here is awesome – thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks Patricia! I saw the film too and was very impressed...it was scary stuff alright!
The scene I have depicted is not the most dramatic aspect of this area...but it had some trees ... which I liked.

I like this one, Sandy, and I recognize the rock forms - something similar on Dake's blog at the moment. And I'm recognizing those trees a bit quicker everytime I see them! I heard about that movie for the first time a couple of years ago and rented it. Hope everything has calmed down there, what a nightmare that was and it seems you've been telling me about drought stuff for months on end. Hope you're back to painting soon.

Hi June...sorry I have taken so long to reply...I am just slack!!
What a great confidence booster you are! Thank you for those great comments!
"Picnic at Hanging Rock" is also a memorable film for me.

Hi Nick,
So good to have you visit!Thank you for your comments!
I must visit Dake's blog.
I am just beginning to get back painting again.
Fires are still a big problem...more extreme conditions forecast for next week...drought has been going for years...it is dire!!
This summer has been so hot that fruits in the normally hospitable fruit growing regions are cooking in the heat...before picking!!
