Ah, cellists....double bassists...two of the noblest instruments for the artist to compose around. I like this Sandy, wondering if it's one of the granddaughters. Looking forward to the curtain call.

Nicholas, thank you!You are right ...our eldest grandaughter!
I don't know how the curtain call will work out...I will be planning, but you know what they say about "the best laid plans"!

Even the best laid plans can be thwarted by unforseen disasters!

I will wait anxiously for the next installment...'Curtain Call' I think not...in your case Sandy...'Encore' is more apt!

I like that you have planned this out. Are you planning this as a gift to your grandaughter?
It's really serene.

Perugina, I don't know that I will give this as a gift to my granddaughter...it is obviously her, but it is not a good likeness.I didn't go for a likeness, I was more interested in the shapes and colours.
The next one will be even less likely to be given to her as I intend to try for more of an abstract approach.

Sandy... I hope you know that Encore and Ancora was meaning to say "More... More..." as I never tire of seeing your work!

Yes, I know about the meaning of 'encore' I didn't know about 'ancora'though! One can learn something new every day!

Good luck with the oil painting Sandy. Do you do much in oil? I have an oil set-up in the studio but I find it keeps getting in the way of my relationship with aquarelle. She's like a lover in another port for me. Very nice at the time but I wouldn't want to marry her.

Oh I was going to say I've done quite a few cellos and double bass' in the past. They're easy to get bogged down on, I recommend you don't try to paint the whole thing, keep it loose and indicated. They tend to distract from the person playing them...just my 2 bobs worth..hope you don't mind.

Thanks David!Yes, I agree with you re the cello competing with the musician..I have painted two others( three altogether)and have come across exactly the problem you describe.
My next one ( the oil), I want to be at least semi abstract and much bigger....it is only half formed in my mind as yet.
As for oils ...I use W&N watersoluble oils. I rather like the consistency and the convenience of being able to wash the brushes in water. There is quite a range of mediums to use with them too.
