Stanley Chasm (diptych)

This is my first diptych! Our local art group has a monthly challenge....this month it was a diptych. I thought it might be time to use one of my ideas from my Central Australian trip. This is a part of Stanley Chasm. Materials: Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. Size: Each panel... approx.30cm x 15cm

Standley Chasm was one of places that I tried to paint but found my version lacking what I was going for.
Yours and Wayne's I think are great.
I found that with nearly all of the central Australian landscape. Evocative and deceptively simple looking but a heck of a challenge to get right. I think it's because the colours are brilliant but the tones are close. You have to stick to theory to invent the scene rather than trying to mimic what you see. ie Exaggerate aerial perspective and temperatures.
I have one of some brumbies with Mt Sonder in the BG up at the moment, it's not great!
I've painted several of everything; Uluru in it's many perspectives, Kata Tjuta, Mt Sonder, Hermannsberg Oval(god forbid) and numerous other wonders of the bloody outback and chucked them all in the bin!
One of these days!

Thank you for those supportive comments re this painting Dave.
I have been struggling with getting images of this wonderful region too...most haven't worked as you can see by the "Post card" type images I did of both Kata Tjuta and Uluru. I don't quite know how I want to present my interpretation of the area...so I am 'puddling' about.
I think you are right re sticking to theory and inventing the scene. What I think I am after is my "gut" feeling/ reaction to what I have seen and felt about these ancient places....as yet, I haven't developed the personal imagery I need.

Hi Sandy...so pleased you came to visit. Thank you for your positive response, to this image, which I hope is the beginning of more.
Central Australia is such an old, weathered and dry part of this land...and so very different from most other parts of the country.
This particular place (Stanley Chasm)is ruggedly beautiful, and with its ever changing light there is a different impression wherever you look....very hard to determine how to express it all visually. This is also applicable to all this region...One needs a more spititual response and thus far I haven't developed the right imagery...I am hoping it will eventually come to me.
