Reflections

Another painting on yupo! This time the model is based on my youngest daughter. Materials used: watercolour, watersoluble oil pastels, bubblewrap, foam roller, wrapping paper, tissues.

Girl Reading

I have been "playing" with watercolour on yupo...Relaxing , experimenting and enjoying is probably a more accurate description. My reference is a photograph I took at a meeting...not at all a likeness of the woman nor the room...simply a starting point. Yupo is fun to use... watercolour doesn't sink in to the "plastic" surface and "mistakes' are easily removed. For this image, I used a foam roller,to blend colours, a window squee-gee for lines and to move some paint about, a waterspray and crumpled tissues for textures.

The Cello Player

Bridge

A Pair of Pears

This painting, a gouache, was done some time back. I placed the two pears on a sheet of glass so that there was some reflected colour and shape in the lower part if the composition.

Sunday on the River

John Cat

John cat was a very much loved ginger moggie. He was with us for many years and sadly,is now deceased. The photograph which I used as a reference for this painting was taken not long before he died. W & N gouache on 1/4 sheet Arches rough 300gsm.

Dappled Light

Despite drought conditions in our part of Australia this hardy little geranium was doing very well. I was attracted to the interesting patterns made by the morning light falling on the plant.I thought it could make an interesting watercolour. The Mall

The mall is a fairly recent addition to our town. It is built on the site of the original Town Hall (circa 1920's) These days there are all sorts of shops from boutiques to coffee shops. Acrylic painting on gallery stretched canvas Size 410cm x 410cm.

On the Shelf

Another 'passion' of mine is collecting old teapots and jugs. These are still sitting on the shelf in my studio along with quite a variety of 'new' additions to the collestion. Materials: W & N gouache on Arches 300gsm. SOLD

Lillies

Lillies seem to be recurring theme in my paintings. I really like the clean uncluttered and rather sensuous shapes of these distinctive flowers. Materials: W & N gouache on Arches 300gsm. SOLD

The Red Bra

This watercolour painting was the result of a life drawing session from last year. The model was asked to do a few poses whilst removing her clothing.Because the pose was difficult for our model to hold, my initial drawing was done quite quickly.SOLD

Teenagers

This painting (pastel)was one I did some time ago. It quickly sold to the owner of these young ostriches.Recently, I had occasion to visit and was pleased to re-acquaint myself with this early pastel. The name "Teenagers" seemed appropriate because they reminded me of my (then) teenage male students who towered over me and looked down with what I thought was a very a similar somewhat arrogant look.As well, these young birds, hung about together...typical teenagers! Melbourne in Spring

This painting is set in Swanston Street Melbourne, Victoria Australia.I think the title says it all.Springtime in Melbourne is quite special. Beside the Sea

This painting came about from a challenge on Wet canvas.The subject for the challenge was quite a complicated and "busy" photograph of what appeared to be a Mediterranean Resort. Aiming to retain the feel of the Mediterranean warmth, I cropped the image and simplified the background in order to focus on the pots and the brilliant flowering shrubs. This is painted in acrylics.

Coastline Trees

This painting is my stylized version of the trees that grow in plantations in Victoria's (Aust.)western and southwestern region.They are a type of gum tree and, probably because they are planted close together, don't spread like gum trees normally do.These were growing on the coastline near Geelong....quite a windy area. Chinese Lantern Flower

This is latest painting is mainly watercolour with some added coloured pencil. Arches rough 300gsm. Size: 15" x 15" SOLD
