I began this quite a while back.I never thought I would bother to finish it.I am pleased now,that I did get it completed. These teapots are part of my collection of old odds and ends... most of them are quite old except for a couple of modern additions. Forest Fire

This was a bit of fun. I poured some liquid acrylics onto the canvas board.Allowed it to dry and then decided what I would create. The pour reminded me of the decorative Art Nouveau Style of painting, so I decided to go with that idea and made the image into trees.Australian gum tree saplings...and also a reminder of the beauty and the terror which can occur in nature.

Pear Shaped

Another in the windowsill paintings , which seems to be developing into a series ...although in different mediums. These pears were picked and allowed to ripen indoors. The light at certain times of day really highlights what ever I have on the windowsill ...it is always the light that attracts my attention.Light can transform the most ordinary subject into something special. Flinders Lane Melbourne.

Flinders lane is a busy area near the CAE. This painting is my impression of the mixture of business people, shoppers and students who enjoy to meet here for lunch and coffee. Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. SOLD

Staff Meeting

 

One day I was late for a staff meeting. There were no seats left so I just sat on the floor at the back. The view was rather interesting so I decided to make a pencil sketch. I added the colours at home later. It was one of the most productive staff meetings I have ever attended.

I am still trawling through my archives....I find it is interesting to remind myself of where I have been and (hopefully) discover another path to future works. So far the going is slow. This composition is based around a young model who used to pose for our life drawing group. SOLD

Tomatoes

This is my first watercolour after a long break from painting. I am hoping that this will be the first of many more paintings. I usually work in a variety of media, not always watercolour! I am feeling very rusty and hesitant as to what directions I will take. However, just doing it is my first concern.

Beating the Heat

I was looking through some images from the past few years and came across this one. I painted it about between eighteen months and two years ago.It is our elderly cat John, (since deceased). He was rushing indoors to get away from the heat...it was another total fireban day with fires close to where we live. Again, we are facing the same dangers, only much worse....our state is so dreadfully dry from the long drought conditions. The firefighters and other emergency services are doing a magnificent job against terrible odds....we are all on alert!

Hanging Rock

 

I had almost forgotten that I had this one... It was painted about six years ago after a visit to Hanging Rock, an interesting outcrop of rocks near Mt Macedon in Victoria, Australia. There is a novel about this rather unusual area. "Picnic at Hanging Rock" was written by Joan Lindsay and was published in 1967.A film of the same name was made in 1975. The story is set in about 1900. A party of school girls, from a nearby boarding school, were picknicking there ...two of them disappeared with out a trace. The area is very unusual, definitely eerie, especially during those hot, still summer days.... Watercolour on Arches Rough 300gsm Size Approx.52cm x36cm

5 O'Clock Melbourne Winter

 

This was a bit of an experiment...painted midway through last year..maybe I was hoping that a painting with rain may have encouraged a downpour here.Sadly my "rain painting " did no good at all! However, it is a reminder of times when it did rain...and of times when we were not amused by a downpour at the finish of a work day. What we would give to get some rain now!

Night Worker

 

This pastel is actually a self portrait. The only thing I changed was my hair colour. I was quite a lot younger then and knitting and sewing for the children took up most of my spare time....painting took a back seat until Target Stores came to town. Thank you to Target for freeing me up so I could paint!! This work is now part of the Permanent Collection of the local Art Society.

Hanging Basket

 

Another "oldie" long sold. This one was right outside my back door...I walked right past it many times, only paying attention long enough to attend to the watering. One day I really looked at it and this painting was the result. I really like familiar subject matter...it's sort of comfortable to work with.

It has been sooo hot here today! It is 4pm. and it is still about 42 degrees. I stayed indoors with Missy (dog) and Hazel (kitty) they both lolled about while I painted the snow scene.I have just finished it! I have not been doing any painting for a few months and I feel very "rusty" (both mentally and physically)! This is one of a number of small paintings that I am doing in an attempt to get back to some serious painting. Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. Size: 25cm x 20cm

 

Because I have been away from painting for some months now, I thought I would start off with some small paintings...anything to get back to painting again. The Agapanthus (although a problem plant if not controlled) are rather beautiful. I love their stately elegance. Watercolour and gouache on gessoed Arches rough... 300gsm. Size: 27cm x 13cm

The Old Goulburn Bridge

This painting is another from my archives. This time an oil on canvas! The Goulburn River virtually circles our town. It is a very beautiful river, with plenty of fish and river crays. My husband was a keen fisherman and loved fishing this river. The bridge is very old (mid to late 1800's)and needs much expensive renovation....it is intended to keep it as part of the very popular walking track. Our local Art Society recently held an exhibition featuring paintings of this old bridge. We donated the proceeds towards it's renovation. It seems as though our efforts( and the efforts of many others in the community) was successful, and now, with extra money from the Shire and the government, this beautiful old structure will survive SOLD

Milby Park 1 and 2

I have been sorting through the archives of my older paintings ...all sold long ago. It is so good to have the photographs of these works, the memories of the times in the great out doors, painting 'en plein air', under difficult conditions of heat and wind ...sometimes a wandering snake...or two!! Lots of great company with friends with the same love of painting. SOLD
